Krukenberg-Tumor

The Krukenberg tumor ( fibrosarcoma ovarii mucocellulare carcinomatodes ) was named after its first describer Friedrich Ernst Krukenberg ( 1871-1946 ). This tumor represents a special form of Ovarialmetastasen dar. 10 to 15 % of malignancies of the ovary are metastatic. The Krukenberg tumor refers to a frequently bilateral, cavitary metastasis ( Abtropfmetastasierung in the peritoneal cavity ) of a signet ring cell carcinoma of the gastric mucosa. Histology shows a typical image with slime forming signet ring cells. The ovarian stroma proliferates strong and the cells proliferate.

In some cases hyperestrogenism or virilization may follow.
