Krzysztof Janik

Krzysztof Janik January ( born June 11, 1950 in Kielce ) is a Polish politician and political scientist. The former Minister of the Interior in 2004 was chairman of the SLD and in the years 1993 to 2005 Member of the Sejm in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th term of the year.

He earned a degree from the Law Faculty of the Jagiellonian University, 1979, he received his doctorate from the political science faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the work " The Union of Rural Youth in the Cracow Province ".

From 1971 to 1975 he worked in the Polish Rural Youth Association in Krakow (two years he was secretary of the Woiwodschaftsleitung of Rural Youth Association ). From 1981 to 1986 he sat in the State Executive Committee of the Union of Socialist Youth of Poland in Warsaw. From 1968 until dissolution he belonged to the PZPR ( Polish United Workers' Party ). Since 1986 he was Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the PZPR.

In January 1990 he was one of the founding members of the SdRP ( Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland). From 1997 to 1999 he held the position of General Secretary of the party and joined in 1999 the SLD ( Democratic Left Alliance ) in which he was general secretary until 2002. In February 2002 he was elected deputy chairman of the SLD. In the years 1993, 1997 and 2001, he was Sejm deputy of the SLD (2001 for the constituency of Tarnów ).

He is regarded as a campaign specialist. In the presidential campaign of 1995 he was responsible for the political program of the staff of Aleksander Kwasniewski and he headed the local election campaign the SLD in 1998. Too, on the presidential elections of 2000, Janik to the bar of Aleksander Kwasniewski.

From 1996 to 1997 he was Deputy Secretary of State in the President of the Republic, his mission field was the local self-government. On 19 October 2001 he became Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration in the government of Leszek Miller and stepped back from the post on 21 January 2004. On 6 March 2004 he was elected chairman of the SLD and lost this function in a crucial vote on 18 December 2004. His successor was Józef Oleksy.

In 2005 and 2007 he ran unsuccessfully for the Sejm.
