Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac

Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac ( lit. Kristupas Zigmantas Pacas, * 1621, † 1684) was Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He is from the family of the Pac ( lit. Pacai ), one of the most important Lithuanian noble families of the Republic of the Polish Crown and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. His father was Stefan Pac, Vice Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Career

Pac was sent at a young age to study abroad. He studied in Krakow, Padua and Perugia. During this time there were close relations with Italy and a proximity to the Italian culture. Back in Lithuania, he made a career in the royal administration. After he had led in 1653 to the Sejm of Brest, he was appointed in 1655 as Vice Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. 1658 he was appointed Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He was thus responsible for the foreign policy of Poland-Lithuania, in the times of wars with Sweden and Russia.
