Kunigunde of Brandenburg-Kulmbach

Cunegonde of Brandenburg- Kulmbach (* 1524 in Ansbach, † February 27, 1558 in Pforzheim, Germany ) was a Princess of Brandenburg- Kulmbach and by marriage Margravine of Baden.

Life

Cunegonde was the youngest child of the Margrave Casimir of Brandenburg- Kulmbach (1481-1527) from his marriage to Susan (1502-1543), daughter of Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria.

She married on 10 March 1551 Dietersheim Margrave Karl II of Baden -Durlach ( 1529-1577 ). Cunegonde had been brought up in the Lutheran faith, while her husband belonged to the Catholic Church. Karl started, also under the influence of his wife, to turn to the Reformation.

After his banning in 1554 Gwendolyn took her brother Albert Alcibiades at her residence in Pforzheim, where he in 1557, a year before his sister died. Both belonged in 1556 to the first prominent spa guests the healing springs of love cell. Cunegonde was buried in the Collegiate Church of St. Michael in Pforzheim, in whose choir is also a cenotaph of the Marchioness.
