Kuriste is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Käina ( Käina vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Mary Nativity Church of Kuriste

The town's landmark is the Orthodox Church of the Assumption nativity church of Kuriste, the largest of the original four Orthodox Churches in Hiiumaa. It is actually on the area of ​​the neighboring village Taterma.

Between 1884 and 1886 occurred in the sign of Russification of Estonia numerous local farmers about the Russian Orthodox faith.

The church was built in 1888/89 by the architects I. Dmitriyevsky and K. Nyman. It was inaugurated in July 1890 in the presence of Tsarist governor of Estonia, Sergei Shakhovskoi. The iconostasis is historicist.

The church today is the only Orthodox church in Hiiumaa, still regularly held services in the. The community is under the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church ( Eesti Apostlik - Õigeusu Kirik ).
