Kuršėnai

Listen Kuršėnai? / I ( German Kurschenen ) is a city in northern Lithuania, 25 km west of the central city of Šiauliai on the highway to Palanga and Klaipeda. Kuršėnai is situated on the Venta. It is the center of the eponymous country office of the Rajongemeinde Šiauliai.

The place was first mentioned in 1561. The town charter was granted in 1946.

In the city of St. John the Baptist Church stands ( 1933). There is a park, a calendar museum, a cultural center and a monument of Laurynas Ivinskis ( in the Laurynas Ivinskis Square). The city has long been known by the pot production. There is also a museum of ceramics.

The footballer Marius Žaliūkas was born on November 10, 1983 in Kuršėnai.
