Kurt Bretting

Kurt Bretting ( born June 6, 1892 in Magdeburg, † May 30, 1918 at Merville ) was a German swimmer.

Bretting competed for the SC Hellas Magdeburg and was before the First World War, Germany's best freestyle swimmers. In the German Swimming Championships, he won 1910-1916 a total of four German league titles over 100m freestyle. In 1912 he presented in Brussels about 100 m freestyle setting a new world record. But he failed to win a medal at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 in the same year and took about 100 m freestyle only fourth place.

Kurt Bretting fell in the First World War in France.
