Kurt Lechner 1961 made his Abitur at the Gymnasium in ancient languages Kaiserslautern. 1961/62 he did his military service in the mountain and paratroopers and was then lieutenant of the reserve. This was followed from 1962 to 1967 a study of law and political sciences and economics in Munich and Mainz. Within the study period, he and his First 1970, his Second State Examination. From 1970 to 1973 he worked as a junior notary in Landau and Kaiserslautern from 1973 to 1999 as a notary in Kaiserslautern.
Kurt Lechner is since 1964 member of the CDU and was from 1971 to 1977 state chairman of the Junge Union in Rhineland -Palatinate and a member of the State Executive Committee of the CDU Rhineland- Palatinate. He was chairman of the CDU district association Kaiserslautern City and since 1993 has been Chairman of the CDU district of Rheinhessen -Pfalz. From 1993 to 2005 he was a member of the CDU Land Executive Committee.
From 1976 to 1979 he was a member of the Landtag of Rhineland- Palatinate. Since 1999, Kurt Lechner is a member of the European Parliament. He belongs to the Group of the European People's Party. For his group he is a member of the Committee on the Internal Market and a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection. He is member of the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries.
On March 17, 2012 Lechner retired from the European Parliament; Nachrückerin is the Mayor of Bingen am Rhein Birgit Collin -Langen.
Lechner is a member of the European Union Parliamentarians European Parliament.
