Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile (* 1980) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter from Philadelphia.

Career

He was a founding member of the originating also from Philadelphia band The War on Drugs, but he got out from the end of 2008 in order to concentrate on his solo career. Since then he has released four albums and four EPs. He is currently signed to Matador Records.

Viles music can be roughly divided into the indie -rock with roots rock, folk and lo-fi influences and is also often compared to Bruce Springsteen. His fourth album, Smoke Ring for My Halo mostly received positive reviews, including from the music website Pitchfork. It was also Viles latest album " Wakin on a Pretty Daze" was rated positively by many critics. In live performances, supported him the band The Violators, this sometimes reinforced with Adam Granduciel from his old band The War on Drugs.
