Kyoto Municipal Subway

The subway from Kyoto (Japanese京 都市 営 地下 鉄, Kyōto- shiei chikatetsu, dt Municipal Subway Kyoto ) is the metro system of the Japanese city of Kyoto and is operated in conjunction with the city buses from Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau. The operating hours are from 5:30 bis 23:30 clock clock, the clock rate varies depending on ridership between 4 and 7.5 minutes.

The Metro consists of two lines:

Karasuma Line

The Karasuma Line (乌丸 线, Karasuma- sen) runs from north to south and also connects with the Kintetsu Kyoto railway line to Nara. The total length is 13.7 km. The opening of the first section between stops Kyoto and Kitaoji took place on 1 April 1981. The last leg of which forms the present-day course, was put into operation on 3 June 1997.

Tozai Line

The Tozai Line (东西 线, Tozai - sen) runs from the southeast of the city at an eastern point out before, the direction from east to west ( Tozai ) changes and thus crosses the city center. The total length is 12.7 km. The line was opened on 12 October 1997 and managed a daily average of 120,000 passengers. The section between Sanjo Keihan Yamashina and was originally built and operated as overground train from Keihan Electric Railway, but abandoned with the opening of the U -Bahn line again and withdrew the Keihan Yamashina operation after. For trains of the Keihan train are in the subway tunnel from Kyoto Shiyakusho -mae Station until after Yamashina and on to Otsu Cities. However, since the distance to Otsu Cities is still tramway constructed similarly, go full-fledged subway trains partially middle of the road.

All stops were wheelchair services provided with lifts, small gaps between platform and train, also the additions have been built without sills to facilities such as toilets. Each station has a color code for easy identification. Access to the train is secured with sliding doors on the platform that only open when a train is retracted.

Technology

In the Kyoto subway Cape gauge ( 1067 mm) is driven. The route is double track and electrified throughout. The operating voltage of 1500 volts DC. The stops are at least 175 m long. The trains consist of 6 cars and have a top speed of 90 km / h

Future expansion

The western end is extended from Nijo after Nishioji Tenjin (2,4 km, 2 new stops) since 2002 to 2007. Possibly this route will reach the 10 km Rakusai New Town at a further stage.

Perhaps the Karasuma Line is extended from Takeda after Rakunan New Town.
