La Clairon

Claire Josèphe Hippolyte de Leris Latude, Claire Clairon ( born January 25, 1723 in near Condé- sur- l'Escaut, Nord, † January 18, 1803 in Paris) was a French actress.

Life

Despite their neglected education Claire Clairon appeared in the 12th year of the Italian comedy as a soubrette on, was then four years a member of the stage in Rouen, dedicated to this at the theaters to Lille, Dunkirk and Ghent until 1743 as a singer in the Great Opera was hired.

Despite a decided success, she went after five months from opera to the Comédie- Française. She started her debut with Phaedra, celebrated a brilliant triumph and soon became a major rival of Marie Dumesnil. She looked unimpressive, but played excellent character roles and sat by new standards. Voltaire praised Clairon with the words: it has the tone of voice, what the Dumesnil in the heart. Also Marmomentel Garrick and they praised.

After she had been for 22 years the favorite of the public, it was because they had refused out of anger over a ne'er-do among the actors to appear, 1765 brought to jail and did not enter after the stage again.

Following an invitation from Margrave Karl Alexander it came to pass, already 50 years old, at whose court to Ansbach, where she performed at the Court Theatre. Then returned in 1791 to Paris, wrote their memoirs and promoted younger actor. She died in Paris on 18 January 1803.
