La Crèche

La Crèche is a commune in the Poitou -Charentes. It belongs to the Deux-Sevres and is located in the arrondissements of Niort and the District of Saint -Maixent- l'École -1.

Geography

The western French village with 5449 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located 13 kilometers east-northeast of Niort on the river Sevre Niortaise.

In the municipality the motorway junction of Autoroute A83 is (E 03) with the Autoroute A10 (E 601).

History

Paleontological the area is known for its dinosaur finds. Bifaces and other finds from the Paleolithic period have been found here. During the Gallo- Roman period here was a small vicus. Only in the Merovingian period ( the 7th century ) wins the area around La Crèche meaning, which has been archaeologically proven by the discovery of a necropolis.

The Château de Bougouin was built by the Vivonne family in the 13th century.
