La Esmeralda is a village on the banks of the Orinoco River in the Venezuelan state of Amazonas. In the village are a military base of the Venezuelan army and an airport.
Geography
North of La Esmeralda is the Duidaberg, which is part of the Parimabergkette.
History
The Spanish Lieutenant Francisco Fernández de Bobadilla founded the village in 1758.
. Visited Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland La Esmeralda early 1800 Although the village was then inhabited by only a few families, Humboldt reported that there were used three languages other than Spanish: Yekuana, Idapameno and Catarapeño.
The New Tribes Mission had a base there. However, it was expelled from the country in 2005.,

There are two schools: Escuela La Esmeralda and Unidad Educativa Cardenal José Quintero Umberto.
