La Ferté-Milon

La Ferté -Milon is a commune with 2210 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aisne in the Picardie region; it belongs to the district of Château- Thierry and the Canton of Neuilly -Saint-Front.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the banks of the channelized river Ourcq, 70 km north-east of Paris and 30 kilometers southwest of Soissons. The municipality of La Ferté -Milon is bordered to the west and south of the Oise.

History

La Ferté -Milon belonged until 1926 to the Château- Thierry arrondissement, then to 1942 to Soissons arrondissement. The reorganization of 1926 was reversed in 1942. 1960, the village of Saint -Quentin- sur- Allan was incorporated.

Attractions

  • Ruins of the castle that Louis de Valois, duc d' Orléans was in order, but this was not completed. Henry IV had it demolished the fortifications. The castle facade measures 200 meters and is 38 meters high ( Monument historique ).
