Labeo dyocheilus

The Brahmaputra Labeo ( Labeo dyocheilus ), in Bengali and Hindi গুড়া মাছ भोला often called Boalla, is a medium sized carp fish from the Indian and Indochinese region.

Description

The Brahmaputra Labeo has a strong body, large scales and fins with a reddish rim. The back is dark brown and the eyes are reddish. Labeo dyocheilus has a big mouth with pearly tuberculate at the muzzle. It can be up to 90 inches long. In Thailand Srinakarin reservoir a copy of 5 kilograms was caught with a fishing rod.

Distribution and habitat

The Brahmaputra Labeo occurs in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, so in the river systems of the Indus and Meghna ( the Ganges and Brahmaputra covers ), also in which Mae Klong, Salween, Chao Phraya and the Mekong River. It prefers clear and fast flowing river sections, but is also found in brackish Mekong Delta.

Little is known about the life of the Brahmaputra Labeo.
