Labi Siffre

Labi Siffre ( born June 25, 1945 in London ) is a British poet, singer, civil rights activist and singer-songwriter.

Life

Siffre was born the son of a Nigerian father and a Belgian mother Barbados. He was the fourth of five children. Siffre grew up in London and lived at the beginning of his music career temporarily in Amsterdam. In 1977 he moved to Los Angeles and wrote there, but published long any albums yet. In 1986 he sang the anti-apartheid song ( Something Inside ) So Strong, after he had seen a movie in which South African soldiers shot at black children. The song was a success and appeared on to published Siffres 1988 album So Strong. Among other things, it was used in a campaign by Amnesty International. He won the 1986 for the song an Ivor Novello Award.

Other well-known songs are Siffres It Must Be Love ( gecovert later of Madness), Listen to the Voices and I Got The (which is wrong often called I Got the Blues ). Eminem used the rhythm of I Got The for his song My Name Is

Between published bis 1997 1993 Siffre, the three volumes of poetry nigger, Blood on the Page and Monument.

Siffre advocates the separation of religion and state and against the supremacy of religions. He is a prominent supporter of the Atheist Bus Campaign, which from the end of 2008 placed advertisements on London buses that will raise awareness of atheism.
