Labroidei

As Lippfischartige ( Labroidei ) is referred to in many classifications subordination of the order Perciformes ( Perciformes ). In the subordination of the families of the wrasses ( Labridae ), the parrot fish ( Scaridae ), the Odacidae, damselfishes (Pomacentridae ), the surf perch ( Embiotocidae ) and cichlids ( Cichlidae ) are provided.

Features

Reason for the assumed relationship is complicated built jaw and pharyngeal jaw apparatus that allowed a diverse adaptations to different diets. However, DNA sequence analysis and comparisons show no relationship between wrasse, parrotfish and Odaciden on one side and cichlids, surf perch and groupers on the other side recognize. The similar skull anatomy must be independent of each other several times arisen.

For cichlids, surf perch, damselfish and some other related taxa with them a new taxonomic group Ovalentaria is proposed, whose relationship is based primarily on molecular biological studies and is supported only by morphological features of the eggs of animals.

In addition, the date of the rank of independent families identified parrotfish and Odaciden belong phylogenetically to the wrasses so that they remain the only family of Labroidei.
