Lac de Gras

Lac de Gras is a lake in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is located about 300 km north of Yellowknife. Lac de Gras was the center of the Canadian diamond rush in the 1990s. Two diamond mines in the area are in operation - Ekati Diamond Mine and the Diavik Diamond Mine.

The lake was called by the natives " Ekati ". The Lac des Gras a water area of 577 km ² and a total area of 633 square kilometers including islands. It has a length of 60 km and an average width of 16 km. Its shoreline is 740 km. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 56 m.

The following fish species are found in the Lac de Gras: American char, Coregonus, Arctic grayling, burbot, the Redhorse Catostomus catostomus and Cottus cognatus.
