Lac Noir (Vosges)

The Lac Noir ( Black Lake ) is a cirque lake in the Vosges. The glacial mountain lake is below the Vosges main ridge at 950 m above sea level. NN above Orbey and Kaysersberg in Alsace Haut -Rhin.

The Lac Noir is located between the Lac Blanc, from which it is separated by the Reisberg, and the Lac des Truites. About the west bank of the plateau of the Hautes chaumes begins.

Scheme of the power plant

The Lac Noir, together with the higher Lac Blanc, a pumped storage power plant group. Here is pumped with inexpensive off-peak electricity water in the north and higher Lac Blanc from Lac Noir, which is again discharged at peak demand of this for electricity generation and Lac Noir. To use the Lac Noir for the pumped storage power station, the lake was also dammed by a dam on the eastern shore. The pumped storage power plant was built in 1934. The associated power station is located on the northwest shore section.

On the eastern shore of the lake there is a parking lot with a restaurant.
