Lacrosse in Australia

Lacrosse was introduced in 1876 in Australia. Lambton L. Mount, a Canadian gold mining, imported 40 lacrosse sticks to make the game in Melbourne known. On April 22, 1876 contributed approximately 20 players from the first lacrosse game at the local Albert Park. In 1879 founded the Lacrosse Club of Melbourne, Fitzroy, South Melbourne and Carlton the Victorian Lacrosse Association.

The first lacrosse game in South Australia took place in 1885 in the Adelaide Parklands. After successfully building the Lacrosse Club of North Adelaide, Noarlunga and Knightsbridge, the South Australian Lacrosse Association finally was founded in 1888. In Western Australia in 1895 was the first game instead.

A national association, the Australian Lacrosse Council ( today Lacrosse Australia), was born in 1931.
