Blue Lettuce (Lactuca perennis)

The Blue Lettuce (Lactuca perennis ) or continuous Cos is a plant from the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Description

The Blue lettuce is a deciduous, perennial Hemikryptophyt and a half rosette plant. He is 30 to 50 inches high. The species forms a Pleiokormwurzel. The leaves are semi amplexicaul and have a geöhrten Journal scratch. There are numerous linealische to lanceolate lobes, which are often lobed or toothed leaves at all. The flower heads are arranged in a corymb sparrig spread. The bracts are not dotted purple. The fruit beak is as long as the rest of the fruit.

The flowering period extends from May to June. Pollination is by insects, the seeds are spread by the wind.

The chromosome number is 2n = 18

Occurrence

The species grows on dry rocky corridors, especially on rocky ledges, and on shallow dry grassland, fallow vineyards and dry waste places such as roadsides, walls and port facilities. The Blue lettuce is base hold.

In Germany, the Blue lettuce comes scattered in central and northern Bavaria (Danube, Jura and Franconia ), South and Northeast Baden- Württemberg, Rhineland -Palatinate and Saarland and Thuringia, rare in southern and northeastern Hesse and Central Saxony (Elbe ) and Saxony -Anhalt ago. The species is in decline.
