Lacus Aestatis

Lacus Aestatis - Latin for Summer Lake - is a solidified lava lake on the moon. The appointment was made by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The original name was Aestatis Mare, by the German astronomer and Selenografen Julius Franz ( 1847-1913 ).

The Mare area consists of two dark gray elongated levels. The entire basalt surface has an average diameter of 90 km and occupies about 1000 km ². The lake is located in the west of erdzugewandten side of the moon at the selenographic coordinates 15 ° South and 69 ° West, between the craters Rocca in the northwest and in the southeast Crüger, who also has a dark ground.
