Ladon (river)

Ladon (Greek Λάδων ) in Greek mythology, a river god in Arcadia, connected to the today Ladonas mentioned tributary of the Alpheus.

Ladon was one of the many sons and river gods who came from the connection of Okeanos with Tethys. He was married to the mentioned only in this context Stymphalis and father of the nymphs Daphne and metopes; latter, in turn, married the river god Asopus. The later to escape the insistence of Love Apollo, Daphne transformed into a laurel tree he allegedly fathered with the earth. He also was the father of the nymph Thelpusa, from which the city Thelphusa herleitete her name, and as a grandfather of Evander, the legendary founder of the settlement on the Palatine Hill in Rome.
