Lady Anne Somerset

Anne Somerset ( b. 1955 in Gloucestershire ) is a British historian and writer.

Life

Anne Somerset is the daughter and second oldest child of David Somerset, 11th Duke of Beaufort and his first wife. She grew up with three brothers. She studied history at King's College London. Subsequently, she worked as a typist and Faktenprüferin for the historian Hugh Thomas, and later for the historian Antonia Fraser.

In 1980 she published her first book, The Life and Times of William IV Her fourth book, Unnatural Murder: Poison at the Court of James I, was nominated for the CWA Gold Dagger in 1997 for Non- Fiction of Crime Writers' Association. For her 2012 published book Queen Anne: The Politics of Passion in 2013, she received the Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography of the Society of Authors.

Sommerset had been married for 23 years, until his death in 2011, with the artist Matthew Carr. She now lives with her daughter in London.
