Lagerstätte

As fossil deposit a sedimentary rock unit is called, which

  • By a particular frequency and diversity of fossils and / or
  • Distinguished by a particularly complete preservation of fossils.

Accordingly, one can distinguish between deposits and concentrate Konservatlagerstätten.

In English-speaking purpose, the term " deposit" as a foreign word is familiar. In German, on the other hand, the mining technical term deposit relates solely to mineable reserves of raw materials ( minerals, ores, coal, gas, oil).
