Lago del Turano

The Turano (Latin Tolenus ) is a river in central Italy, in the regions of Abruzzo and Lazio. He is a left tributary of the Velino, in which he opens at Rieti.

It rises on Monte Bove in the municipality of Carsoli and 70 km long. It flows through the Sabine Mountains.

Turano Reservoir

1935-1938 the Lago del Turano was dammed. It disappeared the most fertile soils of the region, which led to a migration of the population. Today, however, the lake plays an important role in tourism, which developed into the most important economic sector.
