Laima Vaikule

Laima Vaikule ( born March 31, 1954 in Cesis, Latvian SSR, Soviet Union) is a popular on the territory of the former USSR Latvian pop and Estrada singer and actress. Her most famous songs are opening, Charlie and ne Jeschtscho Wetscher (German It is not yet evening).

As Laima Vaikule was three years old, her parents moved to Riga. Soon it became Laima Vaikule interest in music and choreography. At the age of 12, she took part in a competition for young singers and was discovered. Between 1970 and 1973 she studied medicine in Riga and planned to become a surgeon. At the same time they played music with a band, with whom she performed in local clubs and restaurants. The early 1980s, she studied acting and director at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts ( GITIS ) in Moscow.

1985 Laima Vaikule landed their first hit in the Soviet Union. From 1986 she worked very successfully together with the Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls and the Russian text writer Ilya Reznik. It created hits such as opening, Charlie and Skripatsch na krysche (English Fiddler on the Roof ). Laima Vaikule was among the founders of the annual pop music festival in Jurmala. In the eighties and nineties she was a regular participant at international music competitions and festivals throughout Europe. She was among other things, the gold lira at the Bratislava Lyra, 87, received awards at Jurmala 92 and participated in the AU music world in Monaco. In her home she wears the title of People's Artist of Latvia.

On August 2, 2011 Laima Vaikule was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship for her artistic contributions to the Russian-Latvian relations.

Currently lives and works in Riga, Laima Vaikule and Moscow. She sings mostly in Russian.
