Lajos Bálint

Lajos Bálint ( born July 6, 1929 in Delniţa (Hungarian Csíkdelne ), Harghita County, Romania, † April 4, 2010 in Odorheiu Secuiesc, Harghita county ) was Archbishop of Alba Iulia.

Life

Lajos Bálint, Hungarian -born, studied theology in Alba Iulia, and received on April 28, 1957, ordained priest by Bishop Márton Áron. Bálint worked as a chaplain in Odorheiu Secuiesc.

Pope John Paul II named Lajos Bálint on 9 July 1981 as Titular Bishop of Nova and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. He received his episcopal consecration on September 29, 1981, the Bishop of Alba Iulia, Antal Jakab. He was appointed the second bishop in Romania by the Roman Curia since the end of World War II.

On 14 March 1990 Bálint eventually became the bishop, according to Survey Alba iulias by the Apostolic Constitution Quod satis constat name immediately to the archdiocese finally appointed Archbishop on August 5, 1991.

He was released after only three years in office of Pope John Paul II on 29 November 1993 from this position and led from then on the title of Archbishop Emeritus. Due to the decades-long, grueling commitments under constant repression of the communist government, his health was attacked.
