Lake Alta

The Alta Lake is a tarn in The Remarkables in Queenstown in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The lake is about 500 m long and 25 m wide and is covered in winter with an approximately 1 m thick ice sheet. Then it is used by skiers and snowboarders. At times it is also used for ice diving and a meeting of loons is annually organized here by the diving club of Cromwell.
