Lake Atanasovsko

The Atanassow Lake ( bulgar. Атанасовско езеро ) lies just to the northeast of the city of Burgas in Bulgaria. The saltwater lake is located near the coast of the Black Sea and is about 5 km long. A narrow strip of sand about the middle of the lake, on the highway Burgas - Varna runs, divides the lake into two sections. The southern part is enclosed between the Burgasser quarter Sorniza, Isgrew, glaze and Sarafovo.

Since ancient times, salt is obtained in Atanassow Lake. In 2008, during excavations in the area of ​​Wetren close " Solna Niwa " ( German: Salt field ) more than 250 artifacts found, the oldest of which at least 6,000 years are dated BC. The finds are evidence of a developed agriculture, livestock and salt production in this area. Even ritual objects of a priest-king were found.

The northern part of the lake is an important habitat of various species of birds and since 1980 has been under protection.
