Lake Bagsværd

The Bagsvaerd Lake is a lake north of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand in Denmark. It was created as part of the Mølleåen River system during the last glacial meltwater and is now used mainly for water sports. The lake has an island Gåseholm.

Use

The lake has been heavily contaminated in the past by the discharge of effluents and therefore not open for swimming. The water is strongly alkaline, in the 1950s, the underwater vegetation had disappeared. Since by inflows and outflows there is hardly water exchange, water quality slowly improved despite sustaining measures by local authorities.

All year round the lake of rowers, canoeists and sailors and anglers will be used. The sail on boats and surfing are not allowed. In summer the lake is a popular destination for the Copenhagen population. In the area there are several hiking trails.

It is also a race track for racing in rowing and canoeing with six or nine tracks present, were held on the already top international regattas. The Danish Rowing Federation operates on Lake Bagsvaerd a power center for its national team.
