Lake Chamo

The Chamo ( Amharic ጫሞ ሐይቅ č'amo Hayq, German written Tschamosee ) is a lake in southern Ethiopian ditch near the town of Arba Minch. Located just south of Abajasees and east of the Guge Mountains. The northern end is located in the Nechisar National Park and is characterized by the "Bridge of God", an isthmus separated from Abajasee.

It is about 32 kilometers long and 13 kilometers wide. At the lowest point it is 14 meters deep and the surface of the lake is about 317 km ². The lake is approximately 1110 meters above sea level. NN. The area around the lake is dominated by savannah and is known for its abundant wildlife.

Oskar Neumann explored the area around 1901 and found a dry channel, which connects the Lake Chamo with the flow Sagan, which made him conclude that in years with heavy rains flows off the lake in the Sagan. In some years, the Chamo is fed by the overflow of the Abajasees.
