Lake Cheko

BW

The Tscheko Lake (Russian Чеко ) is a small freshwater lake in Krasnoyarsk ( Siberia). There are assumptions of scientists that this lake is an impact crater, which was taken at the Tunguska event.

The determination of the age of the lake may help to clarify this issue. On maps before 1908, the lake is not listed, but are maps that age incomplete and inaccurate. Based on the thickness of the sediment layer, an age of several thousand years, was proposed. In a study by Luca Gasperini, Enrico Bonatti and Giuseppe Longo in 2007, the lake has been studied, among others, with the sonar. The thus determined funnel-like shape of the lake and a striking echo below the sea floor indicate an impact event. Also a slight magnetic anomaly has been detected, an indication of a metallic wrapping body.
