Lake Chūzenji

The chuzenji Lake (Japanese中 禅寺 湖chuzenji -ko ) is a picturesque lake in the Nikko National Park on the territory of the city of Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture in Japan.

It was created 20,000 years ago when the volcano erupted Nantai and the river Daiyagawa blocked.

The lake has an area of 11.8 km ² and a circumference of 22 km. Its surface is 1,269 m, the water is up to 163 m deep. The river Yukawa is the most important inflow, the lake drains through the Kegon Falls in the Oshiri.
