Lake Itasca

The Lake Itasca is a lake in northwestern Minnesota, USA. He has a size of approximately 4.7 square kilometers and is source lake of the Mississippi. Lake Itasca is located in the southwest of Clearwater County in Itasca State Park.

After originally Cass Lake was determined as the origin of Mississippi, was discovered in 1832 by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft Lake Itasca as the source of the river. From there, it flows 3770 km through the United States and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The pseudo- Indian name Itasca is made up of the Latin veritas ( truth ) and caput together (main ) and should sound similar to the language of the Anishinabe School Crafts opinion.

The average depth of the lake lying some 450 meters above sea level is six to eleven meters. It is fed from Nicolett Creek and a small tributary of the nearby Elk Lake.
