Lake Lahontan

Lake Lahontan is the name of endorheischen lake during the Ice Age. He was mostly on the territory of the present U.S. states of Nevada, California and Oregon in the so-called Great Basin.

At the time of its greatest extent about 12,700 years ago covered the lake with an area of approximately 22,015 km ² a large part of the northwest of present-day Nevada and covered the Black Rock Desert. Its deepest point was located where today is still the Pyramid Lake. During this time, he was probably the largest lake in North America.

Years ago, about 9,000 of the lake dried up. Today, a dam is named after him, the Lahontan Reservoir.
