Black Rock Desert

The Black Rock Desert is a dry desert in the northwestern part of Nevada (USA). It lies on the sea bed of the prehistoric Lake Lahontan, which existed during the last ice age. Its area is 30,044 km ².

The salt lake is located is one of the flattest areas of the world, why was erected thereon in 1997 with the ThrustSSC the world speed record for land vehicles.

In the Black Rock Desert, the Burning Man festival takes place; also be of the Tripoli Rocketry Association and the Civilian Space eXploration team regular events for DIY rockets carried out in which on 17 May 2004 an altitude of around 116 km (72 miles ) was reached, which for the first time a non-commercial rocket to 100 km (62 mi) incipient space had been reached.
