Lake Malta

Reservoir

The Malta Lake (Polish Jezioro Maltańskie ) is a lake in the Polish city of Poznan, which got its name from the Knights of Malta established nearby in the Middle Ages. The lake is man made and was created in 1952 by the damming of the river Cybina.

The race course was built in 1990 and corresponds with a length of 2000 meters and a width of 175 meters the requirements of the International Rowing Federation ( FISA ) to international regattas.

In 2009, the World Rowing Championships were held on the lake and 2013 will find the European University Championships held in rowing.

Leisure facilities

Near the lake there are several recreational facilities:

  • The 3.8 km long railway Maltanka Park runs along the northern shore of the lake.
  • On the south shore, the Sport and Recreation Centre Malta - Ski, which is based on the partially reconstructed "Freedom Hill" ( Kopiec Wolności ) includes an all -weather ski slope and a summer toboggan run, and a miniature golf course.
