Lake Mamry

The second largest lake in Poland

The Mauersee (Polish Mamry, Old Prussian Maurow ) is 104 km ² (see Müritz: 117 km ²) is the second largest lake in Poland, located in the Masurian Lake District.

It is composed of six basins: the actual Mamry ( Mauersee of maurai: " duckweed, grass " ) in the north, Kirsjaty, Kisajno ( Kissainsee of Kisis: " ruff " ), Dargin ( Dargeinensee of dergia: " Stormy" ), Święcajty ( Schwenzaitsee of swints: "holy" ) and Dobskie ( Dobensee of daubis: " gorge cave "); the connection to the Dobskie is also Łabap ( Lababsee of labape: " small river " ) called. This system includes 33 islands together 213 ha, are under protection. At the south end of the city Kisajno Giżycko ( Lötzen ) is located; more nearby cities are Węgorzewo ( Angerburg ) and Ketrzyn ( Rastenburg ).
