Lake Mary is a city in Seminole County in the U.S. state of Florida with 13,822 inhabitants ( 2010).

In August 2007 the Money Magazine has awarded Lake Mary as the fourth best place to live in America.

Geography

Lake Mary is directly adjacent to the city of Sanford and is located approximately 25 km north of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,822 inhabitants distributed to 5,728 households. The population density was 619.8 inh. / Km ². 84.5 % of the population were white, 5.0% African American, 0.3% Native American and 6.0 % Asian Americans. 1.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.5% in different ethnic groups. 10.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 25.7 % of all households lived in 33.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.57 persons and the average family size was 3.01 persons.

25.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.1% were 20-39 years old, 34.0% were 40-59 years old and 20.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 43 years. 48.5 % of the population were male and 51.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 83,921, while 7.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.74 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.16% and 1.10% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Lake Mary is crossed by Interstate 4 and tangent to a common line of U.S. Highways 17 and 92 (SR 15, SR 600). The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport ( some 5 km east).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 124 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There was a rape, a robbery, 22 injuries, 67 burglaries, 251 thefts and eight car thefts.
