Lake Pomorie

The Pomorie Lake is a lagoon and is located in the vicinity of the same name founded in the 4th century BC town of Pomorie Pomorie on the peninsula on the Black Sea in Bulgaria. It is part of Bourgas wetlands and a nature reserve. The lake is part of the seascape castle Asseen.

The lakes are separated by a natural Spit and a causeway in the sea. Only in the southern part there is a channel to the sea, through which the salt water intake is regulated.

The lagoon is about 7 - 8.5 km ², 6.7 km long, 1,8 - 2 km wide and up to 1.4 m deep. The salt content is on average 6-8 %. In the lagoon salt and mud is recovered.

In the lagoon hibernate many endangered species of birds that use the eastern north-south migration route of migratory birds, Via pontica. In the protected area there are several bird observatories which are freely accessible.
