Lake Togo

F

The Togosee is a 64 km ² lagoon in the southern African state of Togo in the Maritime region on the Atlantic Ocean west of the city Aného.

The outskirts of the state capital Lomé are removed from the western edge of the lake with Agbodrafo, the former Portuguese Sklavenhandelsort Porto Seguro, less than ten kilometers. In the southeast lie the lake than larger places Togo Ville, Badougbe and Agbantokopé where the discharge begins from the lagoon, which reaches the Atlantic Ocean in Aného.

The lake is fished by locals for carp, sole, turbot, and others. Berliners spend their leisure time at it or enjoy water sports.

The kingdom of the Commissioner for Togo and Cameroon appointed explorer Gustav Nachtigal signed on July 5, 1884 in Togo Ville a contract to secure German claims.
