Lakhdar Belloumi

Lakhdar Belloumi ( born December 29, 1958) is a former Algerian football player and coach.

The technically gifted midfielder Belloumi experienced his breakthrough in 1980, when he was top scorer in the African Cup of Nations and the Algerian national team reached the final against hosts Nigeria. At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, he came up with Algeria to the quarterfinals. 1981 Belloumi qualified with the national team for the first time for a football World Cup and was voted African Footballer of the year. In the subsequent World Cup in Spain, the then 24 - year-old scored the first World Cup match Algeria victory in the 2-1 against Germany, the then current European champions.
