Lakshmi Shankar

Lakshmi Shankar ( born June 16, 1926 in Jamshedpur, † December 30, 2013 in California ) was a famous Indian singer who interpreted classical Indian music. It is regarded as one of the most renowned singers of Indian classical music and the first Indian classical singer, the Indian vocal music popularized in the West.

Life and work

Shankar was interested in as a young girl for the dance and began encouraged by their mother to learn Bharatanatyam. This is one of the classical dance styles today.
