Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque

The Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque is a mosque in Famagusta in Northern Cyprus.

History

The former Nicholas Cathedral was consecrated by the Crusaders as a second coronation cathedral of Lusignan comparatively soon after their foundation stone ( 1298 ) in the same year as the St. Sophia Cathedral in Nicosia, 1326. Immediately after the conquest of Famagusta by the Ottoman Turks in 1571, it became the rededicated mosque and after the commander of the invaders, Lala Kara Mustafa Pasha, named.
