Lamar is a Home Rule Municipality in the State of Colorado and is the county seat of Prowers County. In 2010 the town had 7804 inhabitants. Lamar has a station on the Amtrak Southwest Chief route. The construction of the second part of an international, large-scale physical experiment, the Pierre Auger Observatory in the northern hemisphere for the investigation of high-energy cosmic rays is planned near Lamar.
