Prowers County, Colorado

The Prowers County is a county in the east of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is the largest city of the county, Lamar.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Colorado on the border with the U.S. state of Kansas. To the north it borders Kiowa County, in the South Baca County Prowers County. In the East, Hamilton County and Stanton are (both Kansas).

History

The county is named for John W. Prowers, a pioneer who explored the lower valley of the Arkansas. It was created in 1889 from the division of Bent County.
