Kit Carson County, Colorado
The Kit Carson County is a county located in the eastern part of the State of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Burlington.
Geography

History
The County was formed in 1889 from parts of Elbert County and named after the soldiers and Brigadier General Christopher Houston Carson ( " Kit Carson " ) ( 1809-1868 ).

According to the census of 2000, there were 8,011 people in the county. There were 2,990 households and 2,081 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 87.28 percent White, 1.74 percent African American, 0.51 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 9.20 percent from other races groups; 0.91 percent were descended from two or more races. 13.67 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,990 households out of which 33.6 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.4 percent were married couples living together, 6.3 percent were single mothers. 30.4 percent were non-families. 27.2 percent of all households and 12.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.07.
Based on the county the population was spread from 26.7 percent population under 18 years, 7.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 112.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.1 males.
The median income for a household was $ 33,152, and the median income for a family was $ 41,867. Males had a median income of $ 28,700, women $ 19,978. The per capita income was $ 16,964. 12.1 percent of the population and 9.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 16.6 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 11.1 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
