Larimer County, Colorado
Larimer County is a county located in the state of Colorado of the United States. It is located in northern Colorado on the border of Wyoming and is named after William Larimer, the founder of Denver, named. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fort Collins.
History
The land was populated by the Ute Indians in the 19th century before the arrival of European settlers. In addition, there were settlements of the Cheyenne and Arapaho of the plains. First appeared as a French fur trappers, these were replaced.
The area came with the Louisiana Purchase, finally, to the United States. The Treaty of Fort Laramie (1868 ) between the settlers and the Arapaho and Cheyenne the colonization of the area began with the whites.
Larimer County established in 1861 as one of the original 17 counties of the Colorado Territory. From the outset it was disputed whether the County was west bounded by the Medicine Bow Mountains and the Continental Divide. In 1886 it took a decision of the Supreme Court of Colorado, which finally fixed the watershed as Larimers border. In 1909 the country became part of the present-day Jackson County between two mountain ranges. The development of the county was dominated by the construction of the Denver Pacific Railroad and of the agronomic reversal after the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Like most northern counties of Colorado Larimer County is more influenced by agriculture. In the extreme north-east of the county is one of the oldest and best preserved archaeological sites in North America: The Linde Meier site is considered the best -known evidence of the Folsom culture of prehistoric Paleo- Indians. The finds have been dated to 10,800 Before Present (~ 8850 BC).
Near Loveland is the reserve Devil's Backbone Open Space in the turn out rock formations of hard Dakota sandstone impressively from the surrounding landscape.

According to the census of 2000, there were 251 494 people in the county. There were 97 164 households and 63 156 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 91.44 percent White, 0.66 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 1.56 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 3.41 percent from other races groups; 2.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 8.27 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 97 164 households out of which 31.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.6 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers. 35.0 percent were non-families. 23.4 percent of all households and 6.3 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.99.
Based on the county the population was spread from 23.8 percent population under 18 years, 14.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 9.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 48,655, and the median income for a family was $ 58,866. Males have a median income of $ 40,829, women $ 27,859. The per capita income was $ 23,689. 9.2 percent of the population and 4.3 percent of families are below the poverty line. Among them were 6.8 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 4.4 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
