Laporte (also: LaPorte ) is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. The population was recorded in the census 2000 2.691 and in the United States Census 2010 2450. The Confederation has the zip code 80535th

The town is located near the Cache la Poudre River, northwest of Fort Collins. Very close to the river springs from the Rocky Mountains.

History

La porte in French means " the door ". The name refers to the fact that here the access to all the mountainous regions north of the South Platte River are. The first settlers were French-Canadian trappers and mountain men who built their log cabins there in 1828. It was the first white settlement in Larimer County. Antoine Janis moved in 1884 to the area. A group of mountain men, hunters and trappers declared the area to their headquarters for hunting and the fur trade. The settlement grew and included about 150 Arapaho, who lived with the settlers in peace.

In the winter of 1849 Kit Carson came with his trappers Cache la Poudre by and camped there. 1860, founded a local government, which initially was called Colona. Approximately 50 to 60 block houses were built on the Cache la Poudre River in the valley. In November 1861 Colona was established as the county seat of Colorado Territory. 1862 Colona received its present name Laporte and became the seat of the Mountain Division of the Overland Trail Stage Route. The first post office opened and a stop of the Overland Trail was established.

LaPorte quickly became a bustling center for immigrants. There were four saloons, a brewery, a butcher, two blacksmiths, a shop and a hotel in the city. LaPorte was the most important settlement north of Denver. 1862 established the United States Army Camp Collins to protect the stagecoach from attacks by the Indians. Also, bought the Laporte Townsite Company 5.2 km ² of land. 1863 was the 13th Infantry from Kansas to Laporte, which was used as an escort for the stagecoach on the way to Virginia Dale. During the flood of 1864, the army fled to the mountains. In August, Colonel Collins decided to move the camp six miles.

According to data from the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a size of about 16 km ². This mainly includes a large land area, only 100 m² ( about 0.49 %) of the CDP consists of water.

According to the census of 2010, the population of Laporte consists of 2,450 inhabitants in a total of 1,057 households. The population density was 168 inhabitants per km ². In the census, the race and ethnicity of the inhabitants was charged. After this demographic feature, the CDP consists mainly of "white" Americans (91.4 %).

The average income was $ 52,083 for the entire household and $ 44,301 for families ( 63.1 %). The per capita income of $ 24,118 fraud.
